My yo-yo journey started during the 1998 yo-yo boom, back when I was living in Bermuda. I still remember the exact moment it clicked. I was visiting Florida that summer to spend time with my dad, and while hanging out at my cousin’s house, one of his friends pulled out a red Fireball. He threw a sleeper and watching that yo-yo spin at the end of the string completely blew my mind. I was hooked instantly.
When I returned to Bermuda, the boom had already taken over. Everyone at school had a yo-yo, and I dove in headfirst. Not long after, I entered a local yo-yo competition sponsored by a visitor from Las Vegas known as “Dr. Yo.” I ended up winning, and from that point on, yo-yos became a yearly Christmas tradition until I was finally able to buy my own.
Even after the boom faded, I never fully put the yo-yo down. I kept throwing, learning to loop, landing tricks like Dizzy Baby, and just enjoying the feel of the string. Years later, after moving to Maryland, I came across my old Yomega Raider in a closet. That discovery sent me online, where I saw how far the skill level had evolved.
Finding videos of Mark Montgomery and Yuki Spencer, especially their BAC 2004 freestyles, completely changed my direction and pushed me into advanced 1A play. From there, I joined the forums, started traveling, and competed across the East Coast—Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, and Delaware.
I connected with CizreK and many other talented players who helped shape my style and mindset even further.
Today, I primarily play 1A, focusing on clean execution and flow. My favorite throws are the Supernova and the DeVal, and I’m proud to be part of Team PXS, representing a lifelong love for yo-yoing that started with one sleeper and never stopped.
